雷帝嘎嘎 – Lady Gaga

I wonder how many American pop singers are popular in China.   Michael Jackson was certainly renowned in China and the rest of the world.   He was simply a brilliant musician.

I think Lady Gaga is also such a musician who has achieved international notoriety.   Michael Jackson and Madonna have their names translated into Chinese,  But Lady Gaga is simply known as by her English name 雷帝嘎嘎  (Léi Dì gágá), “Thunder Emperor Gaga.”

I like some of her music.   “Bad Romance” is a song that has a very exciting beat.  She certainly is stylish.  I think she wants to be the Madonna of this generation.

But I have to admit being put off by her video “Alejandro”.

I am a Christian, and some of the images in the video were an affront to Christianity.   So, even though I though it was musically well done, the message did not set well with me.

That doesn’t mean I dislike all her work, but I wish “Alejandro” would have been done differently.

I understand that Lady Gaga’s music is often used on the Chinese TV show, 你最有才。 Here’s  a dance performed to \”Poker Face\”.  It seems the judges weren’t too impressed!

I’d love to hear what you think about Lady Gaga.   Please leave a comment with your thoughts!

    I am not interested in her. But her name is very funny. you know, the duck quacks 嘎嘎.

      @daisy.

      Interesting. In English a duck says “quack quack”. I like some of her music, but I’m not what you’d call a die-hard fan.
      As I mentioned in my blog, I found one of her videos rather offensive. That doesn’t mean I’ll throw out the baby with the
      bath water. (another idea for a blog!) :-)
